Whatipū is home to many rare and special birds such as bittern, fernbird, grey-faced petrel, little blue penguin, nz dotterel, paradise duck, pied stilts, white-fronted terns and variable oystercatcher.
We are a friendly group of volunteers who work with Auckland Council to help control the pests and weeds in the Whatipū valley, and to care for and help inform the public about the Scientific Reserve at Whatipū. We also regularly get together for informative talks from experts about the birdlife and the colourful history of Whatipū and of its wonderful Scientific Reserve.
